keeping up with the 55 gal without the skimmer has been a bit much randomly my fish started dieing out over night.
i just lost 140$ in fish i feel terrible.

looking for a nice skimmer to help keep it clean

this was my first set up. i should have spent more money on getting a skimmer instead of wasting the start up cash on fish

i failed to spend my start up $ wisely.

im on a very low budget.

Just out of curiousity what are your water parameters? Also, what was your fish load? Seems to me there would be more wrong than just not having a skimmer. I am far from an expert but I ran a 55 gallon tank without a skimmer for a long time and only added the skimmer after I got into corals. I may have a couple skimmers here that would be good for a 55gal but I am near Steubenville Ohio, which is probably quite a drive. PM me if you have interrest and we can figure something out.

not enough water changes is pretty much the problem i under estimated the importance im changing 10 gallons tomarrow and gonna take my water to get tested too at a store its just dirty im going to make sure this never happens again and start with a skimmer and more frequent water changes

my names chad too i live in west cleveland kinda too far of a drive thanks tho!

i lost 2 clown fish a blue damsel 2 firefish and i forgot the name of it but its a strped fish was my favorite to i just got it,. most of these fish a week ago from petco the damsel that died iv had from the start which was like 6 months ago

Well Chad, if you change your mind the offer will stand. Also if you have a sump a home made algae scubber is a much cheaper way to maintain a healthy system. And, you will find in this hobby 1000 people have 950 ways of getting to the same results and no one belives the others are right.

i dont run skimmers, have 5 different tanks from a 5 up to 120 gallon no skimmers in any, not many water changes, i add ro water when they are low...have fish corals, inverts, plants live rock, deep sand beds....os i would definitely say to check all your water parimeters...its more then just needing skimmer...probably high nitrates and nitrites that will wipe out a tank in a hurry.....in my opinion

and how many water changes do u guys think should be done and how big on a 55 gal. i buy jugs of waters at this point till i can spend hundreds on a r/o

anything u guys recommend feel free to link it let me kno lost all my fish i feel terrible time to educate my self more.

2 damsels andserpant starfish crabs, snails still kickin.

i realize i should of just put all that in one post sorry for wastign space lol.

I have been running my tank for years, and just recently had a bad crash. Come to find out my salinity testing device ( cheap plastic arm Type) was way off and my salt level was through the roof!! Combined with a temp spike wiped out all my fish and a few of my corals!

Get good testing equipment check your parameters have a fish store double check them and go from there!

You may not need a skimmer, I have never run one in 10 years. Just lve rock live sand and cheato!

You can stop up at aquatica in valey city saturday. I'm working, can test you're water for you and talk you through a plan of action. We don't have used stuff but I have friends that have stuff sitting around. I'm not looking to plug the store, just help you out. Ask for jake.

Ps. The display tanks & advice is worth the drive. you don't have to buy anything, maybe just bring your jugs for water & a sample of yours.

+1 on the algae scrubber suggestion. A properly built algae scrubber removes the need for a skimmer. I built one myself last weekend.

She buys purses and shoes, I buy coral and fish.

Lol. Good move. I should have done the same when I was at your point. I think the most of us have made it to the point where we wouldn't be right without a tank
