I need to find out if LOWES tiles are ok for frag discs or for fast grow out for zoa frags into colonies?
Or what types of tiles i can use.
Thanks

White marble slabs. Cut them with a band saw into small pieces. They are made of Calcium. Essentially coral skeleton. Only white marble though. Any other marble contains minerals and metals.

As well, add them slowly, wash thoroughly, and that will help possibly identify any issues (if there are any).

I use white marble slabs. dont buy the precut. they come with glue on the back. Also i break my marble slabs with a chizel and hammer. I makes a ton of different sizes which is useful for different frags. Oh and get the whitest possible marble tiles. i can make over 50 frag slabs with 2 tiles for 8 bucks.

I like the travertine tile from lowes, ~1" squares, about 9x9 on the flat. I boil them for about 20 minutes in a vinegar water mix. I then use a wire brush to get any remaining glue off. Two "tiles" have lasted me months of moderate fragging. And once covered with zoo's you cannot see the square shape.

I LOVE the tiles if you are growing out your zoas to frag. Nice flat smooth surfaces that you can use a razor blade to take the zoas off. They stay in one place on the sand even with decent current and my zoas grow great on them.

Too much work. Plus the marble tiles are a nightmare if you ever need to frag them later. I'd rather use the aragocrete tiles, which aren't that much more expensive if you know where to look and buy in bulk.

well they were out of white tiles at lowes so i went to home depot instead i picked these up what are everyones opinions on them they are greecian white i do believe?
here are 3 pics they are each a sq.ft

Not sure what you have there...looks like cultured marble to me judging by the sparkles in it and I would not use that myself. Any sort of lable indicating what it is? Plenty of real marble choices are Lowes or HD.

If there is any doubt, make sure you have some of these in your house before you add anything new to your tank:

Also it doesn't hurt to have water ready for a water change.

tumbled marble is key... its pure CaCo3 same stuff coral skelatons are made of. Also very easy to cut with a diamond bit. looks a lot more natural too, since it has holes and irregular shapes.

Maybe i can just cut them to size and let them sit in my toilet water tank until all bad stuff is leached out does anyone have any opinions on this?

since it tumbled does it really matter if its not pure white or just get as close to it as possible?

Ya I dont' know exactly what stone they are or anything - pretty sure ceramic, but I went to lowes and bought the little 1" tiles that are all held together by a backing and some glue. Peel them off the backing and boil them. I have like 40 of them in my tank now and no ill effects.

Ok how about these they are travertine tiles couldnt figure out if they are tumbled but the sales guy said they are natural but it did have filler? (IM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS) will these work if not im taking them back and trying again thanks.

I also suggest the tavertine with the mesh pull of the backing and soak in water or boil and the glue will come right off, then you have a bunch of 1" tiles. dont make this harder than it needs to be.
