Lowtech SPS tanks

I consider mine lo tech. Lights, pumps, ca reactor and skimmer. No Probes, no monitors, all manual including top off. Oh i have timers on 4 of my lights. Not going to post anymore images but search my name\show all statistics\see all threads by this user and you can see as many as you can stand.

Mine is pretty low maintenance... 22g, 2 par38's, tunze 9002, I dose it daily by hand and same for top off. Starting to upgrade more by setting up a Reefkeeper Lite soon.

Mine is about as low tech as you can get for an sps tank. It is a 180 that I manually dose with 2 part, no ca reactor. no controllers, lights on cheap timers, no dosing pumps, 4 maxi mods and a return pump for circulation. I do have an ASM g3 skimmer and a chaeto fuge. All parameters stay stable and sps growing good with ok colors.

Finland we are almost identical. 180g, lights, 2 part dosing (icemelt and baking soda), 4 koralias and 1 modded maxijet, skimmer and fuge with chaeto, and cheap Walmart timers. That's it.

Very high flow throughout entire barebottom system with powerful skimming and t5 lights on home depot timers... gravity fed simple auto top off float valve, carbon reactor and manual daily BRS two part dosing and that is it....

very little live rock, no sand, no macro, no biopellets or any sort of bacterial or carbon dosing, no phos media, no controllers or probes, no calcium reactor...

Very clean system, very good water quality, good growth and excellent color...

It doesn't get any less tech than my tank. It's a 40 gal cube with a DE 250w, an old little giant pump i had laying around, a 1/10 hp chiller (a must in South Florida), 2 phosban reactors- 1 for GAC and 1 for GFO. I have no calcium reactor no refugium and no skimmer.
I dose B-ionic daily and water changes are done when I have time or remember to.... it's been months since I've done one.

define low tech

define low tech

with all this carbon source dosing, Zeovit, Probidio, computerized, remote phone apped controllerized stuff happening nowadays I feel that my system might qualify as "low tech" :spin1:

I had a 50 gallon breeder with no sump, a PSK 100H hang on skimmer, a Hagen 150 Aqua Clear with Chemi-Pure elite, dosed with Aqua C two part using dual 250 watt MH HQI 20K Ebay bulbs. I had montis and acros growing EVERYWHERE. I moved got a 100 gallon tank with a sump, used Vertex biopellets same lighting with T5 accents and I can't keep montis or birdnest alive. GO FIGURE!

Here's my low tech/basic reef.
Lights with plug in timers
Return pump
2 Pumps for in tank circulation
Auto top-up
Balling Light (manually dosed)
No reactors of any kind
Heater
No computers
No dosing pumps
