LP,

that is awesome that they are going to make a retro for the RSM

i would get a chiller in a heart beat if i could get a 150 watt metal hailde.

You may need one anyway. They did not do a good enough job of cooling the lights. Heated my tank up to 85 before the chiller. The tank is in a warmer room in the house but still within the comfort range. RS says that a 50mm fan fitted to the hood on the left back should keep the tank at 80'ish if the room is manitained in the mis 70's. SilenX makes the quietest fan I've ever come across if you move in this direction. They have a 40mm that runs at 14dB that will fit. All you'll need is a Radio Shack (or similar ) power converter.

RS recommends that you use a 50mm fan. If you looks at the drawings I believe the mounting holes are 40mm. That is the key spec. I have bought and will continue to buy all of my fans online from SilenX (http://www.silenxusa.com/productcart/pc/mainindex.asp). They have a 40mm fan that runs at around 14dB. I pretty much don't care what other people say about quiet fans, these are hands down the quietest. Bought a thermostatically controlled IceCap...threw it away. Bought RadioShack fans...threw them away. I have replaced every fan I can get to with SilenX. Buy what you need and go to Radio Shack and buy the appropriate power converter. Also, unlike other fans that I've thrown away in the past, these fans can be hooked up to a reostat and you can control the fan speed, further controlling the noise. Trust me on this. I'm am new to the posting world but have been in the hobby for a while now.

I'm a little slow...It just clicked that you have a RSM. In my house, with the lights on and all of the pumps going my tank went to 85 and still climbing. I had to hook up a 1/15hp chiller to get the temp under control...Aqua Euro. Tanks runs at a constant 78 now. Something to think about.

yeah its weird. i'm into my second week with the rsm. the first week, stayed inbetween 78-80...i was like "perfect!" lately for some reason, it has been creeping up. however, i been keeping an eye on it, and after a full day with the lights on, i have yet to cross above 83. so i'll keep my fingers crossed

how far along are you with yours? hows it going?

It's been up for 15 days. I bought 40 lbs of cured live rock from Reef Life. It went through a mini cycle and now I have 2 - 1" maximas, 1 - 3" crocea, 1 - 4" crocea and 1 - 7" squamosa, 1 shrimp goby and a Randal's Goby. Putting zoo's and gorgonians in it and next week will be adding a pair of blue stripe pipefish (Reef's Edge). Want 1 more ultra green clam and will be done (maybe :p )

Battling microbubbles right now. Skimmer is producing but bubbles are still there.

i'm battling them myself. its quite disapointing. overall, very pleased with the system, but everything i try to get rid of them is a no go. by there way, where in pembroke do you live (if you dont mind me asking)? whats your favorite shop in the area for life stock??

Live out in West Pines in Chapel Trail. We frequent Reef Life and Reef's Edge (our new favorite). We avoid Beverly's and have been underwhelmed with Fishes of Eden. If in the area we also like to Visit Exotic Aquatic.

The bubbles are getting a little better with time. They are just frustrating. Check out this thread for some interesting reading about the RSM. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=110318&st=80

Edit: What is a "bull-tender" by the way?

I work at Tequila Ranch in the Hard Rock. they have a mechanical bull there...i am one of the guys that runs it on the weekends. ever been?

i live in west pines as well. (keystone lake; sheridan and 184)

where is reef's edge???
