Lps corals not for bottom?

Are there any lps corals that like to be higher up in the aquarium? Liveaquaria seem to say bottom for almost everything.

A lot of it has to do with your light source as well. But I've had success with mid to lower half of the tank. Then again, I had a 150w HQI over a 20H.

My duncan seems to do ok on the top except that it's growing so fast I'll need to move it lower soon.

Placement should mostly depend on light and flow. In most tanks, top of the tank receives more light and more flow. Most LPS corals dont like the combination of high light and high flow. There are ones that like high light like euphyllia corals and some lobo brains but those dont like high flow. Same way there are ones that like high flow like cyphastrea, crater corals and even to some extend goniopora. But those guys dont like strong light.

So depending on you tank characteristics, you can place an LPS coral high in the tank. For example. A place high in the rocks that receive high light but protected from strong currents or an overhang near the top that has good flow but not much light.

As long as you can find a position with adequate light and flow for a particular coral, it would not matter where you place the coral (with the exception of certain sand-living corals that needs to be on sand).

^That's why I like my duncan. I have placed it multiple places in the tank. High flow/low flow, bottom/top. It is just growing new heads like crazy. I bought it with one head 2 months ago and now it has 6 heads growing under the main one. Just remember to spot it feed it once in a while (I use raw shrimp).

I have all of my LPS in the lower half of the tank. I have a trumpet and one frogspawn that are right at the halfway point under high light, but that's the highest. I have 2 frogspawn, one giant thick branched frogspawn, 1 torch, 2 hammers, a brain coral, some other coral similar to a brain, a duncan and an xmas favia... all toward the lower part of the tank. They seem happy! I'm using an AP700 @70% with 2xT5s.
