LPS Question

Im just am starting a 14g Biocube, this is my first tank and am loving it. My nice wife went by the LFS and got me this piece yesterday.

Is this an Acan?

Can this grow glued vertically on a rock face. or should it sit on a shelf?

An acan it is. I don't know if they can be glued vertical but every acan at all the LFS Ive been to keep them on sand or a flat surface

So it will grow right on top if sand?

I have some mounted vertically and it hasn't effected its growth. The concern is more of the flow and lighting - not its positional orientation-IME

I've had them grow & thrive on a 45 degree vertical with no problems. I agree with post #4. IME they will never expand beyond the frag plug to the sand but it is a good way to acclimate them. I don't really know how & they grow in the wild. I have them growing on a small "rock island" on the sand bed &'they seem very happy.
