LPS/SPS are Good -- Can't Keep Zoas Happy

SkullV

They Got My Number
I posted this in the soft coral forum but I'll post it here too for some more opinions:

Anyone know why this would be? All of my LPS/SPS are looking good but I can't seem to keep soft corals or zoas happy. My tyree toadstool regularly retracts all of it's polyps and I have lost one complete zoa frag and half of another(it's starting to come off the frag plug).

Params:

* Ammonia - 0
* Nitrite - 0
* Nitrate - 0
* Calcium - 400 (little low)
* dkH - 7
* pH - 8.2

I will say it's been about 2 weeks since I did a 5g water change in my skimmer less nanocube so that MIGHT have something to do with it. I have been getting lazy getting stuff together for a tank upgrade.

I don't think it would be the water change since your SPS/LPS would suffer. Where are you placing the zoas and soft corals? What is the flow/lighting where you are placing them?

How big is your nano? do you have any fish or do you "feed" the tank?

Also your dkh is going on the low end. My zoas are happiest when at 8-9 DKH. Do you run GFO?

Yeap, higher alk will help!
Depends on so many facts...
Maybe they are too new in the system?
New bulbs? Shock?
Temp fluctuation?
So many facts...
IME GAC are not so good, like I've posted in another topic...
I've tried many times to use GAC before. Ended up with problems after a while.
Some like GAC though, and say their systems are fine with that.
Every system is different, of course.

We have the options to choose from.
So good we can post our experiences here to learn from others.

Good luck.
Grandis.
