LR question

just a question about LR i have had the rock in the tank for 2 months but i am still getting die off from the rock and i think that is one of the reasons i am getting high nitrates still could i take the rock out and scrub it with a tooth brush or should i just scrub it of in the tank and vacuum it out thx

how long has the system been running? how are all the other water parameters? was this the beginning of the tanks life(new set up)?
need more info.

Yea is a new tank with 100 lbs of LR. my tank has been up for about 2 and half months now all the other water parameters are good just high nitrates made a post about it before just wanted to know if i could scrub the die off that still is on the rock though it might be why i am still getting high nitrates i did a 20% water change friday got them down to 20 now today back up to 40

Use a turkey baster and blow the die off off and into the water column. Then do a 10-20% water change. Use the turkey baser again and then crank up you skimmer and skim like never before, wet to moderate. You shold look to empty a cup of skimmate every day or so. Also hermits and emeralds scavange on die off, at least they did on min. Also might think about adding some nitro marine. Worked for me.
