LRS gone bad?

I have been feeding my 2 clowns LRS reef frenzy for a couple months now. As of late, they have both kinda refused to eat it......Now I am still using the same pack from 2 months ago, but I only have 2 clowns so it's lasting me a long time.

Does this food go bad? I could understand if it was thawed and sitting out, but it's in the fridge........any ideas?

I also just got 3 banggai cardinals and today was there first day in my qt. They got all happy and went after the food as well (LRS). They ate a couple pieces, then spit it out. All three of them were spitting the food out as well.

Now if my clowns arnt eating it and the new inmates are spitting it out, it's gotta be the food, right?

what other foods should I try? I do have sinking pellets that the clowns eat , i havent tried that on the cardinals yet

I've wondered the same thing actually. My first package was fantastic, but by the time I got to the end of it, it was rather freezer burned. My second package smelled terrible. I ended up tossing it. on my third package now. its better than the second, but not as good as the first. It is starting to get freezer burnt as well.

Curious what others think.

LRS needs to remain frozen until use. If its just refrigerated, that's your issue. They also sell small packages for smaller/lower demand tanks.

I just thawed some this morning for feeding, so that didn't help.

I have another new package thats been in the freezer since January, unopened. I will try that tonight and see what reaction I get.

I think it just gets freezer burnt in our home freezers.

I have noticed the same thing, by time I get to the last bit of it, my fish and corals refuse to eat it. I have since switched to the nano packs and it never gets freezer burnt and everything gobbles it up to the end of the package.

That's the pack I'm working on now. I have two baby clowns so that nanotechnology is lasting a looooooong time. I'll switch tonight and see what happens

I tried the unopen pack of LRS and same thing....nobody is touching it (clowns or banggai's). So I tried to scoop as much out with a net that I could.

I bought a pack of frozen brine shrimp, and frozen mysis. I tried the brine shrimp. The banggai seem to perk up real fast, but again, most of it floated to the bottom. If they did grab some of it, I certainly didn't see it.

I did not try the mysis yet.

I do have a bottle of selcon, should I try that now?

I need to do a small water change tomorrow on the QT since that frozen food is sitting on the bottom of the tank. I know I didn't get every last morsel. I'm worried about the ammonia that could possibly show up due to uneaten food. What else can I try???
