Lucky me?

About 2 weeks ago I bought a 3.5" Maroon clown (white stripe) and she was healthy in my tank. Then after doing some reading on the subject I decided to try and pair her up. I went to the lfs and bought the smallest Maroon they had. I did the float and drip thing and then let it go in the end farthest from the large clown. The two met after a few minutes and started nipping away at each other, at which point I got the nets ready. After about a minute of fighting they lost interest and just ignored each other. I kept an eye on them for the next few hours and they seemed to not really care that the other was there. Since that time, about a week ago, they now spend their time together in the lower back corner of my tank and swim next to each other during the day and night.

From what I read this means they are on their way to being a pair. I just wanted to make sure I am right, because everything I read said it shouldnââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢t be anywhere near this easy. Did I get really lucky? Or will I come home to find the little guy dead in a few days?

sounds like things are going well. It is not (from my understanding) uncommon for there to be a little rebelion at some point where she'll have to re-assert her dominance, watch for it and make sure he isn't getting too badly beaten up.

What do you mean by the "float and drip thing". I've been considering trying to pair up my maroon for some time now, and what I'm planning to do is get a small juvenile like you did and put him in a clear hang-on breeder type tank that I'm in the process of building right now. That way they can get acquainted before they can tear each other apart. Is this along the lines of what you did, or are you talking about something else?

By ââ"šÂ¬Ã‹Å“float and drip thingââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢, I meant that I floated the bag to get the temps equal and then drip acclimated him. While the bag was floating the other one did come to check him out but only for a quick look. After that I just dumped him in and watched. If it didn't work out I was going to put him in a breeder tank and try again the next day.

was the larger maroon really mean before putting in the smaller one or good natured? any other fish in the tank? any anemones?
