I have heard of people doing that, and I saw a bottle of vinigar in the coral section at my lfs, so I guess it must do something.
 
You could also try a strong solution of kalk. It does kill them you just have to make sure you get them all or they will spread. I also tried throwing a bunch of the peppermint shrimp in. I would sometimes see them at night but they all eventually disappeared but the aptasia grew on. What worked for me was a Copperband, haven't seen an aptasia in months. Not an easy fish though.

I have had luck using a combination of the two. Joes juice gives quick results on the visible ones and the peppermint shrimp take care of the hard to reach ones. Get 'em quick though.
 
Do you think having some pep shrimp along with two cleaner shrimp and a fire shrimp are too many in a 92 gallon tank? I really don't want to disassemble the rock work if I don't have to

I would check compatibility of those guys first but gallon wise and animal count should be of in 92g.
 
i had a this problem to and joes juice didn't help but kalcwasser paste did. i got the mix and just added enough water to make the stuff a paste and then smear it on the anemonies. worked like a charm
 
I have moved my corals tonight to the front of the tank, I can see hundreds of them. Before that I couldn't see any at all. At least with the corals moved they can't be stung anymore. I'm pulling my hair out over them. I'm at the point of just giving up!

I've ordered 3 bottles of joes juice as I have to import it from the USA (the ones that sell in the Uk have been known to wipe out whole tanks so I'm not going to risk it) and I have also ordered some precision syringe heads to help my aim.

would I be better off moving all my corals up one end while I treat the tank in thorough sections? also, the ones that are growing in amongst my xenia, will they be ok to treat or am I going to lose the xenia too?

also, while I'm picking brains, I recently changed to LS and I have this red stuff over the surface. A) what is it? and B) is it safe to skim remove it, it looks unsightly and my fish are picking at it and I don't know if they're supposed to.

Why is it in this hobby, you think you got it all cracked and them something else rears its ugly head?

You will be completely fine.

I put in 2 Peppermint Shrimp in my 29 Gallon (Alrdy had 1 Skunk Cleaner and 1 Fire Shrimp), and they did fine.

The completely rid the tank of Aptasia in around 10 hours. I bought 2 of the biggest ones I could find. Make sure when you are shopping for them you buy Peppermint Shrimp and not Camel Shrimp.

Camel Shrimp are not reef safe. They have a hump towards their rear that is the easiest way to distinguish the two species.
 
i don't know why people want to inject things with all kinds of concoctions. pep shrimp work great, are natural, don't harm anything(IME), will clean fish (basicaly take over the role of a cleaner shrimp when not present) and if you get a few happen to get a male and female then their off spring are a natural food sorce for your reef inhabitants. i see them as the natural answer to the unwanted aptsia, cheap and beneficial on lots of fronts
 
OK, thanks Amoore311. I'll try them this weekend. I can see the little pests under ledges etc. and shrimp seems the best way to get at them. Just didn't want to overload my tank with shrimp. I had several others easily accessable and Joe's Juice worked, but not always on the first attempt. It took several tries on one nasty one but I think it was my own fault. For those trying Joe's Juice, be carefull not to disturb the pests until you are in a good position to inject. They close up quickly and it seems if you don't get at them when they are open, it doesn't work
 
Joe's Juice will make em multiply. I used to use the stuff, but I swear, every time I inject a big one, I get five to ten little ones growing around that spot in a week or two. I got a Copperband and it did very little to nothing. The only thing that I have success with is my burgess butterfly fish, but it can only get the one he can reach. Ones in deep crevices, he does nothing but annoy em and the aiptaisia don't extend all the way.
I added some Berghia nudibranches, two weeks ago and was worried they were dead, but I saw them last night crawling around some infested rocks. The rock that I placed em on had a few aipatias in deep crevices, but I can't see them anymore. I think it's too early to say if the Berghia are eating them, but they seem very promising.
 
I have 3 peppermint shrimp and they never touched the aiptasia. The Joe's juice works really well but, watch out if you have an anemone in the area. I lost a BTA that way.

I have a BTA in my tank, I may well have to move him then. Possibly bag him up and keep him high until the job is done. I am seriously thinking of getting a copperband. how big do they grow? I know my tank is small in comparison to others, so maybe I can do a deal with my LFS where when (if) it gets too big I can take it back and exchange for a smaller one again.
