Ludnix's Percula Breeding thread.

My clownfish have recently started spawning, and it's every bit my intention to try and raise some clownfish fry.

I'm recording the dates of spawning and hatching on a google calendar you can see here:

Here's a picture of the first spawn:

I've currently epoxied a tile near their "nest" in hopes they'll decide to use it. This second batch they laid deeper inside of the frogspawn, but hopefully in time they'll adjust to the tile. I may end up using a half of a terra cotta pot instead as it will provide more surface area and fit their location a little better.

I talked to someone locally who offered to help me with getting the starting cultures of rotifyers and phytoplankton. I need to get those going before I try and catch any of the fry. I aslo need to setup some tanks for the fry and room to culture the phyto and rots.

Thanks for following along, I'll be updating as I make progress!

My clownfish laid their third batch today. I haven't had a chance to setup my breeding station or start my cultures yet so this batch will be fish food unfortunately. My small tile wasn't placed very accessible to the fish so they only laid 5 eggs on it, but the appear to be comfortable with it in their nest which is a good sign. After this batch hatches I will readjust the tiles position so they can lay more on it next time. Hopefully by then I can attempt to raise my first batch of clownfish fry!

There's definitely, more than 5 eggs, but only 5 made it on the tile! I'll post a picture later today to illustrate what I mean. Most of them ended up on the coral like the first batch, but 5 of the eggs were on the tile opposed to the coral.

Gotcha. I see what you mean.

Here's a picture of the eggs, I apologize for the blurryness but the hammer was so inflated I had to duck down from an angle so I couldn't get a straight on view.

There are only 2 eggs on the tile now, I guess the other 3 didn't make it and the male clownfish picked them off. They are definately laying a lot more than previously, there are eggs all the way down to the pink putty base of the hammer coral.
