I just bought some Lugol's solution and was wondering how do I use it to do a SPS dip. Do i just use one drop in a small container? The bottle says 1 grop per 25 gallons, but i believe that's for treating the whole display.
i was told when i bought some to put enough drops in a small container to make the water look like a light tea color . then dip the coral for ten minutes then rinse in a second container of system water.
I personally have had bad problems when useing Lugols with Acros... or Monti's they tend to necros severly after a dip.. I dont think they can handle the iodine, however its also a possibility that I used too much?
I use lugols for all incomming corals and some if they seem like there sick.sometimes they brown out but always bounce back.I always make the water a near rusty color and never leave in for more than 3 minutes while basting.thats plenty long to kill red bugs and most every thing else with the coral.Eric Bornman has a thread doing about the same and had a more exact recipe for killing red bugs.I would search for that and give it a read,or ask him for it.
I do about 15-20 drops in a plastic cup filled with about 6-10 ounces of water depending on how large the piece is. I'll leave the coral in there for about 7-10 minutes and shake it a few times while its in there.
Hey Ying you should buy Tropic Marine Pro Coral Cure that works wonders on red bugs. I have not tried it on flatworms or nudis cuase I have not come across them yet. But I would go with TMPCC instead works wonders and the corals do not look stressed at all.
Mario, i've been looking for some TMPCC but i couldn't find it the other day, so I went with lugol's instead. I'll get some TMPCC next time around. Thanks

Thanks Mario, i just picked up the TMPCC today. We'll see how it works. I haven't used it yet mainly due to the fact i haven't gotten any new corals. But I'm sure it'll do the job. Thanks!
No problem just looking out. You will love it. I use two pumps per 12oz coantainer. If the acro has a crab make sure you take it out before the dip or it will die. Unless thats what you want.
