Lukinrats 75 gallon tank thread!!!

Well hello all!

I figured it's about time to update a little. Things have been going real well with the reef. I think I am actually running out of room in my small tank, so it's probably about time to upgrade. Only, who has the money for that?

Anyway, I just got my new FLIP Mino HD, and thought I would post a short video of the tank.

Major Update Coming!!! Possibly a new thread, but I would like to hear some opinions on that subject. If I am setting up a whole new tank, should I just start an entirely new thread?

Anyway, I just became the proud new owner of a 120 gallon 48x24x24, tank :bounce1:
I have been so cramped in my 75, that this one should feel like a 500 gallon. Imagine going from a 11.5" front to back depth, to a 24" front to back. WOW!

I have been so excited about getting it, but now I must temper my excitement because of a shipping mishap. Let me tell you a short story!

I have been watching the RC used equipment forum, for some time now. In fact, we were recently down in Orlando with our little girl, and I almost went and picked up a 180 from a guy down there. The U-Haul proved to be.... too much of a pain in the ***. So, I just kept watching, and finally I saw someone selling a 120 in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately for me, I live in Mississippi, but............................

Our company has a store in PA, that was about 150 miles from Barclayrl's house. Barclayrl is the RC member who had the tank. He and I set it up for a HOTSHOT driver to come pick up the tank and bring it back to me in MS. We already had to send some equipment up there, so it really had worked out to be a great deal.

So the driver gets there... Tapes up all the glass, just like you would do a window, when a Hurricane is coming... He also shrink wrapped the tank, stand, and canopy in case they encountered any weather. They loaded everything on the trailer, and strapped it down. Great!!!:celeb1:

They apparently were standing around, and talking, or exchanging the payment, or whatever, and.............................POP!
A panel on one side of the tank, had cracked all the way down. The driver, which I know pretty well, and who I really felt sorry for, had to call and tell me about it:furious:... Oh well though:spin2:, I still got a great deal on the tank, stand, canopy, and 8 x 54 Ice Cap T5 setup!!!

So, right now I am in the process of studying up on how to replace that one side glass.... I am going to shoot for Xmas time

If any of you have experience on this sort of thing, PLEASE PLEASE chime in, and help me out.

Oh, just a quick note:

I have completely run out of real estate in my 75, so I had to prematurely trim some SPS. I have a pretty good little collection of frags that I am going to put up for sale, in the next few days. They will be some CHEAP SPS, so if anyone is looking for that sort of thing, just be watching!
These pictures really suck, and are from a while back, but these are the corals that I have frags from

I think I only have 2 frags from this one, but they are rather large. It is much larger now, and the color is a neon green. So a green Cap

I probably have 8-10 pieces from this one. Some small, some not: These are from a Highlighter Green Monti that I bought from Copps. If you do not know about his corals and tank, you should def. check it/him out. Here is a link to one of his threads, and TOTM article. I got some beautiful frags from him... http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=450284

I have a whole bunch of frags from this acro. Again, some of them are really large, then some medium, and some small ones. I really like it, because it has some real pretty blueish tips on it. My main issue with it at this point, is that it has grown too fast. That is why I had to frag it. This picture shows it right after I brought it home from the LFS. This is the only coral that I have ever bought from a LFS, and the reason I got it was because it was brown, but had some interesting looking tips on it. It turned out to be really pretty

I also have 2 pieces of this Monti Sponge-odes. This coral has done nothing but get prettier and prettier. Grows pretty fast too. I have a large piece about 2-3" ,and then the other one is about 3/4". Both pieces were accidentally broken off while I worked in the tank

I also have a good many frags from this green colored nepthia coral. I know it is not SPS like everybody craves, but this is probably in my top 5 favorite corals that I have

Like I said, I know these pictures suck, but I have taken some new ones. Of the colonies, and the actual frags, so I just need to get them up, and posted in the Tank Raised Livestock Selling Forum

I just wanted to give a good update on some exciting things going on in my reefing life. I have been so busy with work. With the economy like it is, we have had to chase work all over the place, just to make ends meet. Hopefull, I will get some more time to post on RC, like I was before the economy went to ****. I only have time to maintain my tank at this point, but it is really starting to get better

Soudns like an excitign time. I up graded to a 125 that was 6 ft long almost a year ago and am running into the same problem with space. Between growth and arranging corals. I seem to break frags and im running out of space. Your corals for sale look good , money is tight or i woudl be intersted in some of your frags at the moment I am just maintaining the tank with a few good additions from my local club.

I have not went back through your pics in a bit and was wondering if we could get a an update of your tank .. FTS :)

I would think if you started a new build thread and left us a address to your new thread we would follow you. The building of the tnak seems to be the most interesting part to me :) I'm considdering adding a small acrylic frag tank to my system soon.

Hello Melev! Sorry to say it, but I am standing still on the upgrade. I have plenty of issues to deal with. Such as, placement, and re-placement of the broken glass on one side.

I hope to get started on it pretty soon, but with Christmas coming, I am pretty sure that it will take a back seat to my daughter

Thanks for checking in!

I'm sure replacing that glass won't be fun, but it is doable. We've got guys in our club that have done so. If I were you, I'd try to tackle that soon, so it has a few weeks to cure while you enjoy your holidays with the family.

Thanks for the advice Melev. I have been doing some reading on the process, but I sure would love to hear from some experienced people. If you could, I would love some of the afformentioned club members, to be directed this way. Maybe they can help keep me from messing up

Here is just a little update. I have still not gotten around to fixing my new 120 gallon, so my 75 continues to become toooooo full! I have broken some corals, and I have also had to frag, and will be fragging more.

Here is what things are looking like up to this point, and I will be putting the frags you see up in the livestock selling forum.

I don't know if my pictures are getting to be any better looking, but I am trying to get the hang of it

Later,
NathanS

The last picture of the little slimer frag on the golf tee is a piece that I broke off with my cleaning magnet. Sure is a pretty coral!
