Luman Max vs. Reef Optix???

What is the difference in the reflectors between these two pendants? Is one better than the other?

I'm thinking of getting the Ice cap electrical ballast with the Reef optix because its offered as one complete package on reefgeek.com, but the word is the Luman Max reflector is better. Is this true??

It will be a 250 watt set up with 14K Pheonix bulb if I go with the Reef optix package.

What do ya think??

I have the ROIII and intend to upgrade to Lumenmax or Lumenarc. I think the ROIII were out way before the Lumenmax, that's why there are so many out there.

IMO... Lumenmax or Lumenarc would be the better choice.

i am switching from Aquamedic ocean lights to RoIII and i want to know if i am making a bad decision i got a good deal on the ROIII and i think any parabolic reflector will beat my HAmmertones

i dont care about spread i know the newwer pendants have spread but my tank is 36 x18x18 with 2x250de ROIII so i am wondering if i will get bettter PAR even with hotspots will i get the big increase

how much better is the lumenmax?

I've never had the Aquamedic so can't compare them to ROIII. I would intend to agree that the parabolic is a better reflector than hammertone.

For the price of new ROIII's vs. Lumenmax which are about $20 more, I would have purchased the Lumenmax if they were available at the time.

im getting about 80 bucks totall off the price of the two RO so its like 110 less than LM and again i am tending to think the draw of the LM is spread and i dont care about spread so am i making a bad decision?

Well spread is very important. I don't know the spread comparisons, Sanjay published some of it that might help. However, if you get massive peaks in a small area (like 3inch diameter) that wouldn't be good. Spread should distrubute the light more evenly over a set area rather than focusing light on a very small area. That is the exact problem I have with the aqua-medics. They are VERY intense in a small area but do not spread that energy around very well. So corals directly under the fixture get burned and ones just a couple of inches off center don't get enough, especially on the outer branches.

That being said, I think the ROIII spread a LOT better than the Aqua-medics, so you should be more than fine with your choice! Anyone wanna buy my 3x250HQI? :)

Mogrash thanks allot i think your right the thing is too much spread and it wont fit over my tank again its only 36x18 so fitting two pendants over it without having light spill into the room is tought

i think i will be happy thanks for the help
