Lumenarc Mini

I have a question regarding the mogul socket on a lumenarc mini. I'm planning on purchasing two of these pendants, but I'm not really sure about the socket orientation (and how it effects footprint). In this picture, the socket attaches to a circular hole, with the resulting footprint drastically changing, due to the mogul socket sticking out the side:

However, I found another picture of the mini, where the socket assembly sits flush, vertically on the reflector (thus minimizing the footprint):

So which one is it? Unfortunately, my tank is only 18" front to back, with an enclosed canopy, so having the socket sticking out the back becomes a problem (will have to saw some holes in the back of the canopy.

Is there something I'm missing?

Maybe I'm missing something, but why not mount it so the socket is sideways?

With the circular hole, it looks like the only way you can mount it is parallel to the ground.

With a rectangular hole:

It mounts vertically, and minimizes the footprint...

also I am not sure what the deal is with the lumenarcs but on my lumenbright you can adjust how far the socket goes in and out of the reflector. I do not believe that this is for a space reason. Its so that you can center the bulb the best that you can. Maybe someone will chime in and confirm this or be able to help you out better. Also as mentions above turn the light sideways if you dont have room front to back

Yeah, I believe you can adjust the socket on the LA's as well. Maybe the type with the socket sticking out is the adjustable type?

I might not have enough room side to side either. The tank is ~60g, with a 36 x 18 footprint.

Anyone know how far the socket sticks out?

It adjusts in and out on the Lumenarc mini and I have 3. There is a section by the light itself that the socket slides in and out that will not move..Its the black piece in the pics on the sides

The ones in your 2nd and 3rd picture are the FIXED socket model. It mounts the socket differently than the adjustable socket models....Its only good for 175watt and 250 watt bulbs,

These are the Mini with adjustable sockets here on mine for 175,250 and 400 watt bulbs

Bummer. I was hoping I wouldn't have to saw down the back of my canopy. Looks like I have some work ahead of me.

Thanks for your help.

There are 2 models and I edited my post. The ones in your pics are fixed sockets and they offer a adjustable like in your first pic that stick out more.....

That makes sense. I'm pretty sure I have the adjustable version, as the lumenarc website says the fixed version has been discontinued.

How far out would you say the socket is from the reflector? Maybe around 4"?

The box part for the socket sticks out 5" from the edge of the bottom of the reflector or the large square end.
By box I mean the part the socket slides in and out of and can be adjusted but is fixed to the reflector. The black box seen hanging off the reflectors in my pic...

Hope I worded that right and understandable.
