Lunar cycle without controller

I don't have a lunar controller. Is there some basic timer setting that I can do to try and get my cycle close to a moonlight cycle? It is a digital timer so I can do alot of on and off but not on anything more that a weekly cycle. On the ocean does the moon start to reflect as soon as the sun sets or is there a period of total darkness? Now I have the lunar lights on all the time but I think there should be a period of total darkness.

Hi,
the lunar cycle is just that.It goes from being no moon-to full-to no moon, basically over 28 days.If you then add to that(in the real world)clouds & storms, then it takes a pretty complex controller to replicate this pattern.Personally I wouldn't get too hung up on the various moon "lighting periods" & would just go for a constant. After all,the moon has a great effect on tides, depending on what phase it is in-due to it's gravitational pull & I'm not sure there is a controller, that can replicate it.HTH

Tunze's milticontroller has lunar cycle, but if you turn on the room lights it will throw it off cycle.I have a wigit that I downloaded and it is the lunar cycle if your bored you can check it every night and try to simulate by covering part of your light. But really are you that bored? The time spent doing all that would probably justify the expensive controller. And I own it with the photo cell needed to make it work. It really is'nt that great the (white)led is barely noticeable I still run 3 more blue leds to light up all the fluorescent corals. I use the photo cell more for the other function of calm sea,it detects when the lights go out and slow the currents in the tank. This being debated if it is a good thing of not in the thread about calm seas. worth the read

Do ocean waves get calmer at night? is the name of the thread and right now it's about 5 or 6 down from this one. If your interested?

You can find info on the phases of the moon including moonrise and moonset for whatever location lots of places online.
