i'm considering getting a group of lyretail anthias and would like some help.

can someone tell me (or point me to a thread) what foods they used during qt and how they did it. what you started with and what you eventually used as a permanent food. ex: did you start with plankton, then add some frozen then add pellets?

also, i would like get a group of 6 and my qt is a 29g w/ 50g hob filter and a decent sized protein skimmer. is this too many fish at once? would i be doing a bunch of water changes?

any info on these would be appreciated.

thanks

I got a single female back in January for my reef but have moved it to my FOWLR since.

I did not QT at that time.

The fish ate frozen cyclops and small mysis immediately and within a month was eating NLS pellets.

At that point I just continued feeding those and she has brilliant coloration.

I think you'll be doing a lot of water changes in a 29g QT tank...but you would be doing just as many in a 40B. I use a 40B for my QT because it has a bigger footprint but I know that not everyone has the space. I would at least get one more larger powerhead in the tank and have lots of good hiding places (PVC).

Good luck

i feed mine frozen Brine, mysis, rods herbivore & bloodworms. I have 2 lyretails and 2 bartletts and they are doing great.

I start all my Anthais off Brine and then they usually move on to anything after they get use to eating Brine. I feed mines Brine-Flake-NLS pellets, I want to try nutramar too.

I want to try nutramar too.

It's the only food I currently feed that EVERY SINGLE fish I keep eats...so be prepared to start going through packs and packs of that stuff!

It's expensive but it is certainly worth it.

Did you notice improved coloration? It's about the same amount of protein as the nls pellets, might give them nutramar as a treat or just include in their diet. haha

Lyertails are generally one of the easiest anthias. Mine will go after anything that hits the water. Mysis, Rods food, Brine shrimp , Formula flakes, Nls pellets, and a couple angel formulas I cant remember the exact name.

Amen to that. Capelin fish roe is also an excellent food for occasional treats.
