typical amount it takes for a female to turn into a male?
Slowly rebuilding my 180 will be a mixed reef, going to have a 55 gal sump (size restraint) and a 90g refugium (70 gallonish water volume)
Currently 90 is running with the 55 sump curing rock and getting established for past 2 months. Setup was not started fresh i did move move the rock and pair of clowns from the bio cube therefore it wasnt a long cycle, if any, parameters have been stable since day 1 of the transition.
Question is i added 3 lyretails ~3 weeks ago 2 on one day and purchased a 3rd the following day, the first 2 were ~the same size and the third was about a half inch shorter and none of them were showing any signs of being a male. 3 days ago the smallest of the 3, strange, started darkening in the fins and appeared to be in the process of changing into a male. Everyday he, assuming, is getting darker and darker.
So how long does this transition take to occur and may there be problems down the line because he is the smallest of the 3?
