Lyretail popeye

My Lyretail Anthias has had Popeye for a month now and when I changed the water the eye bulging almost went back to normal. But a week later it is sticking out pretty far again, do you guys have any ideas what can be causing this? Can gfo dust cause this?

Its in one eye and its not cloudy

Try epsom salt (1 tablespoon per 5 gals) if you haven't done so already.

If that doesn't work, it's likely the eye condition has progressed into an infection and you will need to treat with antibiotics in a QT. Furan-2 is a solid choice and widely available.

improve water quality. perhaps a couple of big water changes, and get on with the weekly WCs.

feed more..

I dont think adding salt to salt water would do much.

I've been doing 25-30 gallon changes every two weeks. I'll continue feeding them more though. For the past months I've been feeding one cube daily sometimes every other day. Now I'm feeding two cubes daily when I can.

no personal experience with it in saltwater set up, so cant comment. it would just increase concentration of mg++ and sulfate ... but Ill take your word for it :)

OP. start doing weekly water changes. something is building up in your system casing this.

Do you know what it might be? Is it some kind of chemicals that may be getting past the ro/di, gfo/carbon dust, or can it be just waste from something inside the tank?

Harmful bacterium in the water column can cause what you're describing. If that's the case (big IF), then you might need to treat the fish w/antibiotics in a QT. Also, UV sterilizers are a lot more effective at eradicating bacterium than parasites in a tank.
