So I found on Craigslist list a hood that has 250w blue wave 2 dual. It has a white and blue bulb. I got it due to the fact I payed $50 for it. I only plan on doing soft corals. Is this thing worth keeping? Or should I sell it. I we going to get a t5 Ho 4 bulb, but just couldn't pass it up due the price. It this light going to cost me a fortune in electricity?

What size tank? I like the look of the shimmer from mh bulbs which is why i stay with them but depending on the size tank you could use either the mh or t5s

The shimmer effect is best from halides. It could be called excess light, but it can work as well. I say if you have it, try it before you sell it.

Try one over your tank if its a cube shape, two if rectangular.
This is quite a bit of light, you could pack the tank with SPS with those lights.

I have the 150w m-81 bluewave single & dual ballasts & I like them.

Is it double or single ended bulbs?

Either way its much more powerful than a 4 bulb T5.
Swap the bulbs for new Phoenix 14k bulbs and your good to go!

You didn't remember what kind of bulbs you had?
Dear OP,
I think you will regret selling them, even if you start with them and change to LEDs (I'm guessing you want LEDs) its worth it, you have a proven lighting system that you can fall back on just in case.
You got them for cheap, it doesn't mean its not worth it. Keep it.
(I'll be in WA in a few months, ship it to me.)

What are the dimensions of your tank?

What coral do you want to keep?

What's in your tank now?

48x18x22
Just soft coral and that stuff
Nothing yet still I'm the build process

I would like keep them, i just think they are way overkill for what i want to do and it will be a few years before I will be thinking of stuff that needs this much light.
What part of Washington?

Your lighting is something you will grow into. Don't be surprised if you grow into it very quickly if your like me. They don't cost much or heat up a tank much if you run them properly or witha small clip-on fan above the tank, they don't cost as much as you think unless you have high electric rates there.
It really depends on your pendant/reflectors...lumenbright pendants should be high (18" because they are spotlights, others should be closer) butlumenmax/ lumenarc/reef optix style pendants have more spread than downward punch.
I have a house north of Spokane but when I come back I will most likely find a place closer to Spokane. I bounce around around a lot.

Got a pic of your reflectors?

I'm trying to get pics up but photo bucket is refusing to work on my phone. I can tell you they are ugly and look like they are home made. What would good decent bulbs to use? What kinde of cycle should I run them on? Like a 4hr or 6hr.

I'm sure there is.
I'm using imageshack now but I still use snap bucket for taking cell phone pics.
Flicker is one I haven't tried,I'm sure there are more.
