1.34 hours of flight time. Gotta be there an hour before the flight to go through security. Gotta drive to the airport and park. Gotta rent a car when you get to Iowa. By the time I do all that...I can just drive there. Plus...flying is boring. If I drive I get to see things along the way.

You could make Des Moines from Memphis in under 11 hours pretty easily I would think. I've done the 15 hour drive from Starkville, MS to Spencer, IA (my hometown) a few times and its not as bad as it sounds.
