As many of you know a group of volunteers ran a booth at MACNA to sell frags for charity. I've very excited to announce that the MARSH Frags for Charity booth raised $1,531. All of this money will be donated to TERANGI, (The Indonesian Coral Reef Foundation).
The MARSH Board was approached by Brian Plankis who thought it would be a good idea to have a charity booth at MACNA. We thought it was a great idea but that with all the MACNA planning we still had to do we did not have the time or energy to undertake another project. Brian stepped up and decided to run the project himself.
Brian had lots of help from other volunteers including Jamie Todd, Mark Lowe, Joe (PUMA), Darren (lordfoul), Steve (CBBSteve), Chris (cstewart), Quoc (fishcraze), Cheryl (nanonano), Jen, Leslie Douglas (lesd), Mike Mullins (moon1951) and Brian's wife. MARSH would like to thank all these volunteers for their time and effort.
We would also like to thank all the MARSH members who donated frags to be sold at MANCA and especially Eric Borneman who donated over 100 frags for this cause.
Brian examined many options and wanted to give our donation to the best charity that would help promote a sustainable trade in corals and reef animals.
He chose TERANGI which is a non-governmental organization that is working to preserve the coral reefs of Indonesia through education and training of the local population to produce a sustainable harvest.
60% of the worlds coral reef species are found in Indonesia, yet 82% of the reefs there are threatened with a variety of problems. Hopefully MARSH's donation can help make a difference at the source.
