macro algea removal?

(i understand this forum is for plant lovers, so dont chastise me, thanks.)

i have had my 30 long setup for about two months now. the first rocks i purchased had two bunches of macro algea on them, and they looked nice.

well, after two months it has spread everywhere and is starting to dominate my rocks. i have tried physical removal but it never does the trick completely, and the little pieces that i miss seem to just help it spread even faster. at this point i would just like to remove it all.

i see so many beautiful tanks in these threads with little to no macro problems, anyone have some suggestions as to what i can do? physical? chemical? anything? (as long as it wont endanger my fish or corals, obviously.)

thanks for any and all help.

i dont have an exact id, there seem to be about 8 to a dozen different species to my eye. i will post a few pics when i get a spare minute.

Pics will help alot. Each species has it's own method.

You won't get chastised. We all have algae we want and algae we don't want ;) The worst that will happen is you maybe asked for frags

What else do you have in the tank? Critters, corals, fish? What are your parameters? Where are your rocks from? That will help with ID if they are hitch hikers.

okay here are some pics, they are rather large (thought id might be easier that way).

my tank parameters are all normal.

heres my stocking list:
fish - 2 clownfish, 1 flame angel, 1 royal gramma, 1 court jester goby

inverts - 1 cleaner shrimp, 2 sexy anemone shrimp, 1 white leg hermit, 10 blue leg hermits, 3 margarita snails, 1astraea snail, 10 nassarius snails, 3 cerith snails

corals - 2 hammer corals, 1 open brain, 2 trumpet frags

hope all this helps, thanks again.

Wow, you got some real "live" rock ;)

Can't help with ID (Still learning from everyone here)

I'm thinking a single Turbo will sort it out, if you don't want to keep any. Be prepared to give the Turbo back to the LFS or another reefer though as it would probably starve in a 30G in the long term.

Is that a type of green bubble algae and a type of scroll algae in the second pic? Don't think a Turbo would touch either of those.

I like the stuff in the 3rd and 4th pics :D

Limbo - i actually like the stuff in those pics as well, i had two nice 'bushes' going... but then it just got out of hand and it is everywhere now. i fragged most of it to my friend for his new 'fuge, but as you can see there is still plenty and spreading like crazy.

i will have to try a turbo and see what happens, thanks for the advice.

anyone else out there have any ideas?
