hi all,

Looking for a low maintenence decorative (not cheto) macro algae for a nano tank. I'm settting up for FOWLR but I'd like some macro in the tank for decoration.

I have no light on the tank right now but it is by a bright window. I can add two exocotic par 38's,12K if needed.

Tank - 20 gallon long

For red species, look up Dasya or Dragon's Breath (Halymenia).

For green, I like Halimeda, but it sucks up calcium.

All three Dobberss mentioned are good. I would also look at C. Prolifera. It has the least "going sexual" risk, and gives the appearance of seagrass, without the intense lighting needs.

Try live-plants.com (Not sure if this website is banned here or not, my bad if it is admin :) )

Par38's for most macro are overkill. It won't hurt them, but if you need them for something else, use them there. A friend of mine grows most of her macro algae with a double fluorescent shop light! It costs like 10$, then add bulbs and you have 20$ lighting perfect for your needs.

Try feather caulerpa. Not insanely fast-growing, but it looks nice. It's also supposed to be one of the ones at less of a risk of going sexual.
