my set up is a 5 gallon hex, two 9watt 6500k. aquaclear filter, 5 pound fiji rock and some macro. I have noticed alot of pods and a couple bristle worms, Its going on its 2nd month of cycle, Now I'm saving for a horse but thought id ask on what the experts thought! I need advise on lighting times and what species I could put in here. I was thinking about purchasing a mating pair.

Hope this isn't a disappointment, but the only species you can keep in the 5 gallon is dwarfs. You'll also probably want to trap those bristleworms if you can, as they can cause your horses potentially fatal injuries.

Good Luck, aquascaping looks great!!!
