Hi all,

I've got what appears to be a macro algae growing on my rock. Can anyone ID this?

Sorry, just noticed there is help us help you thread...

Here are some more details.

* A clear, crisp photograph
- will try to get better, phone is best cam I have.

* A description of the texture of your algae (is it brittle? soft? fleshy? does it break easily?)
- It appears soft, will grab one when I get home to confirm.

* A good reference for the size of the algae (try for something in the photograph that shows the scale)
- the largest one so far (the one with the fork at the top) is about 0.5" so far, but growing.

* The location of your live rock or collection spot (Caribbean, South Pacific, Pacific, etc.)
- Rock was all dead (acid bath then cured in rodi for a month. Tank is 3 months old. The spores must have come in on a frag or snail.

* A description of the growth habit of your alga (growing on rock, on/in the sand, in the water column, etc.)
- On the rock, mostly in high light area in top half of tank (ATI T5HO)

Not 100% sure if I see g.hayi there.... Thinking more on the lines of graciliaria mammaris

Might need to grow it out a tad more to get a more accurate ID

This is hard to ID because of the size of the macro. Does the stem look round and hollow? it could be a Botryocladia but you will need to get a shot when they get bigger to be sure.
