we'll I've been borrowing my uncles canon eos D20 camera. I've got a normal efs 17-85mm lens on there now. I can't get any close up shots with this lens, so I'm looking at getting a macro lens.

My problem is...I have no clue what numbers or lens's to be looking at. I've been searching ebay and just looking around, but it's like spanish to me! (I understand very little). could someone please point me in the direction of a good lens! I want to take super nice macro shots!!!

keith,
i agree with bckane. this lens is the way to go for your camera.
i think i have a good idea of the shots you want, and you need a true 1-1 macro.

dex...i want to be able to take the shots you took when you were over here. close ups of the paly's and sps.

and on a really really good note...MY UNCLE JUST GAVE ME THE CAMERA for babysitting his kids over the past couple months...YAY!!!!!!

one more thing just because you spend 400 800 dollars for a lens don't meant its going to take perfect pictures. its not the lens behind the person/ its the person behind the lens.....:)

If you want to hook up one weekend I will bring the lens over and you can give it a whirl........I love my 100mm....BTW you can use it regular lens also its just not for macro...so its like killing 2 birds with one stone
I woudnt say its a good walk around lens but its better then the kit lens
hope this helps

Keith,
You need the Canon 100mm f2.8 macro. Its the canon equivelent to my Nikon lense. Its expensive, but really worth the money.

BTW If your looking for a nice walk around Lens I have one of these....
Brand New New used
Canon EF 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6 USM Image Stabilizer Lens

I would actually LOVE if you came over with your lenses for me to "test" out. I live right up in weston right off I-75(maybe a mile). I'll be free all weekend as I'll be sitting at the kitchen table making a mess(architecture final). LOL. Just give me a call or send me a pm.

the lens i'm borrowing from my uncle is just a normal 17-85mm. it has a image stabalizer. I like it, but haven't ever used anything else. it works good for taking normal pictures, but I can't get any super close ups. I'm going to be needing both a macro and normal lens as my uncle would like this one back as soon as I get one for myself.

The New 17-85mm IS is a nice lens....talk your uncle into letting you have it...:)
Or better yet tell him you will babysit for 1 year free of charge...:)
