huh, having to reduce the file to half it's original size has reduced quality quite a bit... the original you can see that the blue squiggles on the feathers are actually little dots, and you can see all of the little hairs on the feathers too.

DSF, Did you shoot that with your new 100mm? Looks good. How far was the end of the lens from the actual subject? I ask because my 70-300mm got ok-to-good reviews as a macro, but it has to be like 1.?? meters from the subject. I can do it but it has to be on a tripod.

I have an AWESOME pic of that Tomato Clown using that large bunch of Anthelia Polyps in my tank an an anenome, I'll post it tonight. I still have not gotten a shot of the Marrons as good as the couble you shot. I've only taken 400 pics in a week and a half though. :D

only 400? rookie! :D
yep, I used the 100mm macro. I had the lens about 3"-ish from the glass, and the duster is about 4" from the back wall. I'm still looking for a hood (ET 67) because I really liked how Mike showed me to put the hood flat on the glass for macro shots. It keeps you more stable and there's no flash or other reflections.

oh, I have a 75-300 and I wonder what the difference is between my lens and yours? It's a Canon lens.

I read alot about the 2 lens, the reviews said that the 70-300 was a faster focusing lens. And boy does it ever. I don't have anything to compare it to, but I did shoot some pics last week. From my deck, I was able to pull the print off the stake that the funeral home gave us for the tree from Tammy's Dad a few years ago. That was at about 23-25 feet. The tag was about the size of a mailing label. I love the IS feature (Image Stabilizing). I got it on both lens. I love it but it's big.

I was a bit worried about the 70-300mm though. when I first started playing with it, it just would not auto focus. The motor would spin and spin, but the image would not clear. I had to actually sit down and look at it, turns out the AF was not switched on. I am worried though, I keep forgetting to lock the lens after use.

Working on finding a camera bag now though, I'm really fussy. I might take you up on that offer to try your 100mm though. I was looking at them 2 nights ago. It's tough to convince myself that now, right after that initial purchase, is a great time to run out and spend 400$ again.
