Macro Question

I have a 90 gallaon with no refugium. I was wondering could I buy a ball of cheato or/and culurpa, and just throw it in the back of my display tank, hidden from view? My goal would be to harvest copepods, anthropods, reduce some nitrates (even though i am running 5ppm or less) and also have food for tang, and foxface. Would this work?

I made an in tank refugium to keep handle on my macros. Cheato never worked though I did just drop it in the tank. All my others are doing well, though one corner is overgrown with one macro. Keeps the critters safe from the wrasse thoough. I actually used one end off of a changing table organizer left over when we setup our nursery. I cut a slit and put a plastic hook through that and hung it on the side of the tank. Codium and some calerupa and a smideon of a red macro the fish like are inside and growing through holes I drilled in the box. I like using this a lot. I can move it and trim the macro easily and the critters can live inside fee of fish.

do not use calerpa in your display! chaeto is way better and won't go sexual on you. It grows like crazy! I toss out about a pound or more every week or two!
