Macro shots of my shrooms (large pics)

So hubby got a new macro lens and I tried it out for the first time. I still need to adjust to knowing when and where to point the flash - I had to color balance these the best I could but they match up pretty well to the not-messed with other pics i have of my shrooms

FLricordia- for those pics yeah I was using one- I am still learning how to move it and when to get the best true color shots haha I can't wait for spring break when I have more time to learn more!

And anguswu I can't compete with your awesome pics but those are T5HOs the 4x54w teklight fixture with I think a combo of geisman\ati bulbs

If you have on and off camera flash and they are TTL auto and you can use the on camera at full TTL and the off camera at fill flash hold the off camera to the side and it will create nice texture.

I have no idea what you just said. My husband is the toy man I just get to play with them haha..

Basically use the flash to the side of camera instead of mounted on?

Sorry. If you just have the one flash then you might have to just play with it a bit. But yes, side flash gives definition and texture. Just a few inches to the side and slightly above the camera might work, but it is better to have a flash on the camera and one to the side. Anyway, your pics look pretty good as they are. You only get better with practice.

Here are couple with flash on camera and to the side. it gives a bit more depth to the pic though my camera is a cheap 4 year old and my off-camera flash isn't dedicated so the pic itself isn't that good, just to give you an idea of what it does.

Hmm okay I think I see what you're saying now!

I got some frags at a local auction I will have to try this with!! (no mushes unfortunately heheh)

in the photo forum someone was doing "spotlighting" with a very intense LED light shone right on his subjects.. turned out amazingly awesome i want to try that too!

Actually, I always turn off flash. And more blue light will help your reef more colorful. I always take shot under 20000k HQI and ATI T5 blue.

I find with some macro shots the flash sometimes helps but it could just be my inexperience!

These aren't mushrooms but I can show you a comparison of the same coral with no flash versus flash:

Here is no flash.. just my aquarium lights on

here is same coral with flash

I think even with the more blueish color that T5s have - the pic without the flash is more true to the coral's color but it is still a new piece so I am not even sure if it will stay exactly that color!

Beautiful shots Chrisstie!

I've found the the flash on my camera somehow interferes with my macro shots and it makes them less crisp and almost out of focus. Maybe I'm doing something wrong though. I'm not much of a photographer.
