Macroalgae Tank

what is that tall red species of macro you have?
i was wanting to do somthing like this in my octo setup, when i ever do set that up.. with lots of LR, Very nice i love it!
 
This is the macroalgae I am growing in my ten gallon and I am growing red grape in my 24 gallon.



also growing Chaetomorpha, lettuce algae and red feather kelp in the 24 gallon

Sad to say, i am left with the red grape algae and some other red algae... All the green ones have turned sexual and die off...

Bro, You lettuce algae, attached to rocks or just the algae itself... I have a lot of it...
 
it just lays in the sand..it doesn't grow very fast..I don't know how to make it grow fast..no big deal..it came in with my grape algae..so it was free. The red feather kelp was free too.
 
would running a vortex diatom 24/7 work to slow down the algae from going asexual...when used with the diatom powder it can filter out even the finest organisms...including ich. I would think if you kept it in the upper half of the tank away from the pods and stuff, it should work.
 
Vortex diatoms aren't built to run 24/7. They are made to run a short time because they clog so quickly.
 
I've run mine 24/7 with no problems...I have the large size...maybe that makes a difference. The instruction book that came with it said it could be run like that... you have to keep a close eye on it the first few days, until the largest of the particles collect and the powder is changed out a few times. After that no problem...now it just has to be run for 48 hours every 2 weeks or so...usually right after a water change to suck up all the junk that gets stirred up in the process.
