Stay away from Caulerpa Racemosa in a main tank, unless you enjoy pruning every four days.

Hi lizardman, I set up my 10 gal in June 04 and have had macros in it from the start. I love them. Here's a pic and the names of some of the macros I have. I don't have all of them id'd. They either came on the LR or I purchased them from my LFS.

Inhabitants:
hermits, snails, 3 peppermint shrimp, fire shrimp, 6-line wrasse, corals; Red Sea xenia umbellata, xenia elongata, purple nepthea, finger leather, protopalythoa's, giant anthelia, sea rods, colt, several color zoos, neon green mushrooms, blue mushrooms, 2 types green star.
macro algaes; Chaetomorpha, red, green and bubble kelp, red and green gracillarias(sp?)too many types of plants and macro to name. Haven't id'd half of them.

thats kool fluffy- grape huh - everytime i see grape it looks as though it is dying - is that normal? i guess i have seen very healthy stuff in mags and books though

No, its not normal for it to look like its dying - could be many things, but if it has adequate light and nutrients it will be very green.

I have grape calurpa in my main...really because I dont have a sump and I needed something to compete with the nuisance algeas. It has been in for two months and has become dominant in that side of the tank. I also like it there because it creates a copepod buffet for my mandarine. I see him go in there daily, and he seems very happy. Today I am putting in an acrylic divider to corral the macro. To me, having caulerpa in my display has both solved and created problems....I would much rather have it in a sump, and plumbed, and all that good stuff, but finances dont allow that for me right now.

I did the same thing for a while. Trouble is that it sends out runners, and you end up not noticing that the back of pieces of LR are covered in the stuff until it starts coming out over the top. Once that happens its teardown time, and you end up pulling caulerpa off rocks with a pair of tweezers.
