I am curious to know just how the nutrient export of macros (chaeto) actually works. Do the macros use the phosphates and bind them within its structure somehow ?? When You harvest the macros how does this actually reduce the level of phosphates in ones system ????
Yes, growing algae incorporates the phosphate into the biochemicals making up its body. Molecules such as DNA, most proteins, phospholipids, etc. all contain phosphate. So when you remove it, it is exported.
