I made a costly mistake buy not quarantine my fish properly, anyways im dealing with ick. My blue hippo is getting it most, and powder blue also. Im running 430 gallon system with some corals/shrimp/snails...
Here is a list of my fish.
1 Blonde naso tang. size 6-7''
1 purple tang. size 3.5-4.5''
1 flame angel. size 3.5-4''
2 dottyback, size 2.5-3''
1 blue hippo tang 5''
1 powder blue tang" 3-4''
my plan is to go fishless tank for 72days and treat affected ones!
my problem is i only got 20g tall quarantine tang. (which is not going to work)
Any suggestions how to hold this fish for 3 month? (i have 4 32g deep bins)

Probably going to need something much bigger than a 32g. I'd look on Craigslist to try to find an old 90g or so to buy. Or get a Rubbermaid stock tank.

Do the TTM (tank transfer method) with your 4 large bins. Technically you'll only need 2 but I'd split them up. That's a lot of fish. You could also house them in 2 of the bins and do smaller TTM "batches" with 2 or 3 fish.

TTM!? question, Do i need to tread the ones with ick already first? and then do TTM?

Google tank transfer method and read as much as you can. If you can only afford to treat a few at a time you should start with the tangs, or the sickest ones. If they were mine I would split them into 2 groups and do 2 batches (all of them)at the same time. Then keep them quarantined away from the fallow tank. Read read read. It's a lot of water you'll use, so it won't be cheap...

With the amount and size of fish you have I don't really think TTM is practical. I'd go with a big qt and do hyposalinity

I second that pfan151. Im doing HS in my display tank. Luckily I don't have that many corals.

With the TTM , you're just carrying ich from an infected tank to a new tank and shocking the hell out of the fish.

Ttm works if you do it right. But with the amount of fish he has it's best to use another treatment. Or get more bins. Definitely get a large holding tank and start cycling it.

This is so wrong in so many ways. This poster has obviously never used TTM or knows why TTM actually works.

TTM works and is only 1 of three known ways to rid fish of ich. It is probably the least stressful of the 3 methods. I have never lost a fish during TTM.

Of the three known ways to rid fish of ich, copper can't be used on all fish(some are very sensitive), and hyposalinity is so easy to screw up(a couple points in either direction cant kill the fish, or not kill the ich), TTm is easy and can be used on any and all fish.

this! this! this! +1000

I made the mistake of trying copper treatment with my flame angel, I followed the instructions set by Seachem for their Cupramine and added slowly so to not shock the angel and I only used half strength. Long story short I ended up losing the angel, most likely due to copper poisoning. I got a replacement flame angel and decided to go with TTM and it was so easy and worked great. I will only use TTM from now on with any new fish I receive.

For the OP, like suggested before, I would use your 4 32 gallons containers and split up your stock and perform TTM with all of them at the same time, this is going to be your best bet for getting rid of the ich. During the 12 day process you will have plenty of time to find yourself a holding tank for the fish after TTM is finished. Craigslist usually has some good deals on used tanks, 75-90 gallons is what I would shoot for.

I also second the TTM method. I think I heard Petco has their $1 per gallon sale if you need more smaller tanks. I think they have 40 or 55 gallon tanks in the sale.

I don't know about other areas of the country but in MA. the $1 per gallon sale now only pertains to tanks up to 29 gallons, the 40 breeder and 55 gallons no longer apply for the deal.

TTM is superior to other methods in terms of eradicating ich with the least amount of damage to fish. But for OPs situation, I dont think it is practical. He would need to prepare 150 gallons of saltwater every ~3 days. I mean not all RODI systems can even produce that much of water in 3 days, plus that he would nee time to dissolve the salt and manage the temperature. While doing this, He would go trough more than ~4 buckets of salt.

If it was my choice, I would threat large tangs with copper and treat the sensitive fish like the angel with the TTM in a smaller volume.

man.... thank you all for replies! but im still confused as for best way for me in my case! right now i have enough salt to mix 400gollons, and shortage of RO water is not in issue (my whole house runs on RO) I do have a space issue for a big tank, Max floor space i got is 60X30 for another large tank.

Go to the dollar store and buy a couple large totes. The biggest you can find. Works great. Do TTM and then when you're done you can split your fish between the two totes if you have to while letting your DT sit fallow. The only thing thats a pain after TTM is keeping up on water changes since you're keeping your fish in an unicycled tank. Just be sure to do weekly water changes and you will be fine. It's actually not as stressful on your fish as you might think. Be sure to throw in plenty of pvc fittings for them to hide in and they will be fine.

Just want to update on whats going on. After reading all you replies I decided to do TTM on ALL my fish with 4 om my 32g bins (boy its a work.... and not cheap)
im approaching my last transfer of the of TTM process, Since first transfer i have not seeing any ich on my blue hippo and powder blue, SO so far its working good. However! Im not sterilizing everything like using vinegar and all.. Im just rinsing everything with garden hose outside and living it dry for over 2.5 days in garage.
