Mag 5 question?

Just curious if anyone has used the mag 5 with a fractionating impeller & venturi assembly as a skimmer pump?

Years ago a lot of did mess with the Mag pumps. You can get it to work but it is not ideal. I did a pin wheel and a mesh on a Mag5 and it will work but for the price of a new skimmer pump you will get a lot better performance without the heat the Mag generates.

I have mag 5 & skimmer laying around and wanted to use equipment that is collecting dust for a small project Just didn't want to spend about $40 for 2 parts to make this possible.. But your right about the heat on mag pumps..

That thing is screaming for a Waveline DC3000 skimmer pump. I loved those old Berlin skimmers, though most people hated them, one nice thing about the DC3000 is you can control the air/water ratio to tune it to optimal performance.

LOL, a buddy mine couldn't sell it and just gave it to me long ago. But yeah, not to many great reviews on it..

Hummmm $140.. That pump looks great and might give it a try on my ASM G3 down the road

I put the DC3000 on my G3, I would suggest the DC5000 skimmer pump for the G3 body. The 3000 on high is about the same as the original Sedra 5000. I am still playing with venturi size on mine though so the jury is still out on the DC3000 and the G3 body. Mine is recirc so that also impacts things a little.

I been wanting to recirc mine but been lazy..lol!! But keep me posted if DC3000 works for you. Was going to use a skimz pump as a recirc but still not sure. What do you think?

I have no complaints with the DC3000, but at max speed it is not an improvement on the Sedra, at least with the three different venturi's I have tried, I am still waiting on the RLSS venturi so it may end up being a perfect fit. I haven't seen the Eden pumps that Skimz uses so I cannot help there. Recirc the skimmer and use a gate valve, it really enhances the G3 to the next level.
