mag 9.5 question

My mag stopped running, and i can't figure out why. The impeller appears fine. I've cleaned everything thoroughly, and cannot get it to run consistently. Does anyone know if the main body of the unit can go bad? Or perhaps the impeller can go bad without any visible problems?

I've had the windings burn out on one before after about 1 year of use. No visible sign of the problem unless you measure the coil resistance at the plug prongs. Mine was an open circuit.

My Mag 7 stopped running one day recently. I gave it a good cleaning and the first time I plugged it in after that, it didn't want to start up. Just a "click". I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it started...been running for three or four weeks since that happened.

Ryan- Sounds like you're pump just tried to start-up running backwards. That isn't all that uncommon, although it is really annoying... especially if you're power goes out, the pump does it, and you aren't there to start the pump back up when it comes back on.
I've had some of my powerheads do that before (particularly the one feeding my hang-on fuge). The fuges are set-up so that the pump sits vertically and that must cause some problems... I've since fixed the problem by putting a 90 on it. It doesn't take a little hang-on fuge very long to go stagnant if the pump isn't going.
