Schnucks carries Roadrunner Ice Melt that's calcium chloride, magnesium chloride and potassium chloride. I don't know if it works or not but my wife picked me up a bag to try out.

It is not the same... Mag Flake is just magnseium chloride. Ask Roy Brown... he's the go to guy about that stuff

Right - this is calcium and magnesium together - like Reese's but without the peanut butter and chocolate.

Or something like that. :hmm3:

It was just something I threw out there as an option to being stuck with a 50lb bag of Mag flakes.

Yeah, I picked up the Road Runner stuff and its going back to the Lowe's soon. On the chemistry forum, Dr. Randy advised against it for because of precipitates and impurities.

I dont mind getting a 50# of Mag Flake, particularly if people want to pitch in a split it.

The prestone is dow pellet aka pedalow. But DON'T use the roadrunner stuff. It so happens that the MgCl used in that mix is the correct stuff but it's in a hodgepodge(did I spell that wierd word right?) of other chemicals. Could even be what is swept off the floor after mixing up the "more pure" mixes.

Now if you find a bag of Mag chloride packaged by Scottwood indurstries w/o the others mixed in, then you are getting the Dead Sea Works MgCl and you are set. After contacting Dead Sea Works, they had a sales rep from Scottwood Ind. contact me and they do supply Home Depot's and Lowes in the St. Louis area with the MgCl but I've yet to find it in a store. I ended up ordering mine from harveysalt.com
