Mag-Flip?!?

Saw this thing on your website. Have you tried them out? Do they work? I know Jeremy had a tank leak and I was talking to him about the Easy Blade scraper. I've taken it off my Hammerhead, because the temptation to go around the corners the fast way (without completely removing the magnet from the tank) was too great. And too risky.

This looks too good to be true. Is it? And will it work on a 150G tank?

Hey Joel,

It can be a little tricky to actually try and get it to flip. It's at a great price point to basically have a "2 in 1" magnet though.

Jeremy

Whoa. Look who's back.

How's the new tank?

I need a way to get the coralline off the glass on my 150. One option is to get another easy blade and be more careful to only use it ocassionally, and to remove the magnet completely when moving from one pane to another. But that'd be a pain!

Does the scraper work well? Is it a razor blade or something else? I don't care what it is as long as it will remove the coralline from the glass.

Also, I see they have 2 sizes on their website. Does PA have both?

And what are you doing here????

Hey Joel, the new tank is doing well. No leaks! ;)

We only have the medium size of the Mag-Flip, and it does not have an actual razor blade, but a hard plastic sharp edge blade on there.

Jeremy

Would it work at all on my tank or too small/weak a magnet?

If Premium has used it in the shop, have you found that the plastic edge works on the coralline?

Smaller, easier spots of coralline would be ok with it. Anything really thick and hard to get though would not work out all that well. On your size tank the medium wouldn't be all that strong. I probably wouldn't go over a 90gal tank with the medium size.

Jeremy

If you get the Algae Free magnet with the easy blade you will be jumping for joy. It works great. I added one to my magnet cleaner and thought "why didn't I get this sooner!" The best thing to do is take the blade part out of the tank when you are not using it so it does not rust but they are a great combination for cleaning.

Michelle: read above. I had it and removed. The risk of destroying the silicone seams is enormously high if one is at all lazy, inattentive, or hasty. Be careful near the edges of the tank! And then watch the coralline grow there!

FWIW I have not ever been scared using my EB on a mag-float.

Using one on a hammerhead would scare me though.

Using the blade, you don't need as much downforce, the extra strength the HH provides makes it harder to move, and easier to overshoot. With a large mag float with the EB, I can clean with only my thumb and index finger on the outside mag, and have great control when cleaning my 150. And with the lighter magnets, if you DO hit the silicone, the inside magnet pops loose, instead of digging in.

Plant Guy mentioned something about a Mag Float and an EB? Forgive the ignorance, but what is EB? I have a medium Mag Float on my 90 gallon. What can I do to it to help with corraline on glass? Right now, I use a razor blade in my hand every few days. That's getting irritating to the fish.
