Hello!
I have a 125 g FOWLR with a Magnificent Foxface, Blue Tang and Red Coris Wrasse, LR and sponge, some macroalgae. Tank has been established for 5-6 years with no problems. I have had the fish for just about that long, maybe a year less.
Wet/dry, skimmer, heater, pretty low lighting, enough for LR and sponge. Water params consistently good.
About 2 weeks ago, I noticed a small red wound on the tip of my foxface's nose, very small, and his face seemed swollen. After consulting my "tank guy" who maintains the tank for me (vacumm and water changes every two weeks, religiously) we were inclined that it was a wound he encountered from being startled and bumping into rock, and that his face was also swollen, rather than an infection or infestation of some kind (eyes were enlarged bilaterally and equally). Also, he seemed more camoflaged/mottled than not.
It started improving (less swollen in the face, less mottling) but the wound was unchanged but not worse.
The only thing I have changed is that I am adding vitamins to the tank and soaking food in vita-chem and selcon, and adding an all in one trace element/vitimin/mineral solution to the tank every day (Fish solution by Ecosystems Aquarium). Also fairly new is the addition of Tang Heaven macroalgae, all this to try to improve my tang's HLLE.
The inital observation of the wound pre-existed these changes.
So, today, it appears the wound on the end of the foxface's nose is larger and irregular shaped (was round), and a deeper red, and his right eye is swollen and very glassy looking. He is also very mottled/camoflaged.
I have attached a picture I took today during maintenence.
My tank guy recommends Melafix. I have researched that on these posts and a lot of people are not fans, but it doesn't seem to hurt. I am skittish, as I don't want to put anything in that will harm the LR.
Has anyone seen this before? Suggestions?
TIA
