Mag pump ingest grit trip GFCI?

My gfci on the right side of the tank tripped today, is it possible that a mag 9 that ingested some grit could have tripped it?

Once I uplugged the pump and turned the switch off I could reset the gfci.

I have 2 seio 1500's 1 seio 1100, dolphin 3600, 1 mag 9, and 2 250 watt ballasts running on this circuit.

Running fine again...

I think it was the mag 9 for when I uplugged that one the gfci was able to reset.

Make note clean pumps tomorrow.

I have all circuits on the tank protected by two seperate gfci's one on either side of the tank. 20 amp.

I guess that is why I put these things in :)

Other side of tank not affected.

It sure sounds like th e pump is the problem but it sounds like it is leeking current into the tank, not just jammed. If it was jammed it should not blow the GFI.

well shorts have a way of finding themselves...I stuck my hand in the water and no shock....Maybe the pump jammed, and tripped it...

My table saw motor jammed a few times and tripped the 20 amp breaker when the motor stopped...

So it is possible for a jammed motor to trip a gfci.

A breaker and a GFI work completely differently. Also the motor or you table saw is different then most pumps as it has brushes. The current draw should not change significantly if your pump motor gets jammed. GFIs are designed to trip at less curent then you can feel. That is their whole purpose.

wet plug tripped it... Just found it. I added a mag 7 to my fuge and my outlet in my sump is just underneath it, and some splashing must have got near the outlet...

Fixed it.
