mag pump question

can you use mag pumps as external pumps? im asking cause i know they run hot!

I believe you can, but I think with the smaller ones like mag 5 and lower there are leaking problems, but with the bigger ones I dont think there is a problem.

On my 90 I ran a mag 9.5 external for over a year with no problems, well just a little noise.I fixed that by setting a towel under itthough.

I would run mine external, but then I would have to buy a heater...

ok i want to have a sump on my nano but i dont want to drill it or have the sump above it so i was thinking that i could have two of the same mags to run the water from the nano to the sump and back to the nano but not sure if it will work

That wont work, because even if you have the same model pumps hooked up they are never the exact same when it comes to flow. So eventually you will run into problems with water overflowing. If you dont want to drill the best method would be a hang on overflow, but personally if you can drill that is the best method.
