Mag Pumps

I have been searching for a mag pump since that is what every one seems to be using.

Only problem I have is that I can't find the 9.5 that everyone is talking about. I just want to make sure that I am looking at the right pump.

I was looking at these two pumps.

Could some one please let me know if these are the correct mag pumps that everyone is talking about.

Thank you

Frank

The Mag 9.5 is a reliable pump, but noisey and a power sucker. Still it makes a good return pump if you are not concerned about noise and power usage.

It really depends on your needs. The factors involved are cost, noise, heat, flow, and reliability. Most of the time you can pick three of those, maybe four. I have never seen one meet all five. :p

For me the criteria is low power usage and cost, good flow with low heat, at the expense of a little noise. The Rio hyperflows fit this criteria perfectly. Eheim pumps fit all of them at the expense (no pun intended) of cost.

Yep. I'm using one in my rock cooking bucket, works good.

Have used mag pumps in the past and never had a problem. However I agree they are noisy, cost prohibitive due to amperage and displace a lot of heat.

I am setting up a 400 or 500 gallon tank. Waiting for pricing on the tanks before making a choice.

I am looking for a pump that will be able to handle that tank. I have been looking at quite a few pumps and it is hard to make a choice.

According to the formula for tank flow, I need a pump in the range of 25,000 galon per hour. (gallons x 20 to 50 )

This is a hard system to find a pump for. I think that I am going to need multiple pumps to do this. Does any one have any ideas on how to do this.

Or has anyone already designed a filter system for this size tank. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help
