maggot looking things

Expensive Sushi

It's not the best picture, if you need a better one I'll get one tonight. But anyway - what are these? They look like fly maggots. They are stuck to the sump walls and are also inside my over flow walls. I don't see any in my fuge or the display tank.

I have them all over the inside of the filter of my cube. If they are bad I would like to know.

i always thought what i have are a limpet almost like a chiton
but id like to know also

I can tell you guys have better eye sight than me - LOL. Better pic would be good but to me by your description of darker areas etc - Sponges, tunicates etc. I have lots of sponges and are completely harmless. My Wrasses love them. do they have a little opening on the tip - kind of like the last half inch of a ink pen body? Some of mine have little hairs (just a few) sticking out of the hole. Do they look anything like that and what color are they? If so they are sponges and mine are mainly white but I do have that are yellow and a few that have a green tone.

i have the sponges your taking about but mine are only in the overflow and they crawl like snails but real slow .
is this what you have sushi ?

Hmmm. I dunno.

Its hard to get a good pic of the little buggers. The end that is not atttached to the walls has a horzontal fish like tail.

My fish don't like the taste of them.

Good, they help filter your water! The only thing is they also can clog your pipes and get into areas that we would prefer they not grow - like in our protein skimmer, pumps etc. For the most part they are good, just do your general maintenance and they are great.

Sea squirt is another name for tunicate and also called ascidian and for that matter it seems that any of the Ascidiacea seems to be called sea squirt. So, tunicate and sea squirts are one in the same for the most part - most people enter change these name (right or wrong).

Phylum Chordata â€"œ Subphylum Urochordata (sea squirts and tunicates) â€"œ class Appendicularia, Ascidiacea, Thaliacea
(They had gills sometime in their development)

Phylum Porifera (Sponges) â€"œ class Demospongiae, calcarea, hexactinellida

Sponges do not have notochords or gills at any time during their development therefore they are in a completely different phylum.

Am I positive with the "Sponge" ID or label? Not really, but with 5000 different species - chances are it's in there.
