Magnavore won't come together

I just got a new Magnavore 8 but the thing simply won't come together correctly. It will only stick together about halfway and the attraction is not strong enough to hold it together. When trying to center them they just repel?

sounds like the magnets are screwed. The polarity sounds like its not correct. Like if you flip a magnet over and they repel each other instead of attracting.

Yep, but only the centers repel. They stick together half on half. Bizarre...

With some fiddling I managed to get them to come together. It's a great magnet cleaner and doesn't scratch the acrylic.
