Hey guys, Just trying to figure out what takes up magnesium in my reef tank. I've been trying to get my magnesium up for the past week and I'm only at 1140. I have noticed my yuma's are looking smaller since I started dosing so I'm hoping its not affecting them too much...
magnesium, and to a differing extent strontium, are used in combination with alkalinity and calcium for the precipitation of calcium carbonate in coral skeletons, coraline algae, etc...
On a side note it takes a large volume of liquid to raise your magnesium compared to what it takes to raise your calcium because of the low saturation level of magnesium that can be held in suspension.

I'm realizing that now. I'm trying not to add too much but I was surprised it didn't rise faster. When my calcium was low it didn't take much or long to get it to rise.
Thanks mondo. Ill check out that article when I get in today.
