Magnesium

Does anyone check their magnesium level? Is it necessary to check it or do water changes keep it in balance? I use Reef Crystals for my mix.

If your alk and cal levels are good then your Mag is probably ok.

That being said...Yes, you should check. I use RC and seems the Mag is a little low. It also really depends how much your tank uses. The chemistry forum has a ton of information on the relationship between Mag, Cal, and Alk.

i check it and add to every water change to bring it up to the levels of NSW but i use IO salt.

I always have to check my Mg levels, but the corals I keep seem to really suck up the Mg for me

Oky for those of you that are testing it which kit are you using. All of the (4) LFS's around here say they cannot get the Salifert kit and don't carry anything else for magnisium.

i test all levels every 3 days... i use salifert test kits...

I check mine about once a month but do not see any depleting, but I do weekly small water changes

i also use salifert. and check my levels every 2-3 weeks. but when i get a new bucket of salt i always check the levels of the new bucket so i know how much alk. mag. and cal. to add to each water change. and i also dose randy's 2 part.

but if your LFS can't get salifert, how about ordering off the internet? and if all else fails i beleive sechem is your best brand of test kit after salifert. see if they can get that brand
