Thease are nickle plated and I wonder if that would be a issue with the tank? Neat magnets though.

I saw them used in a tank with acrylic coating them. How do you coat them? What do you use?

I've seen people coat them with silicone. If you get these magnets, you might want to get #7 or 8 on that page. They will work with thicker glass. Once you coat with silicone and attach to something like the maxijet holder, you'll have at least 3/8" and maybe closer to 1/2" to go through depending on the thickness of glass in your aquarium.

Will silicone work? How do you make it smooth?

I would definately coat these in something if you plan on using them. I could imagine that it would be easy to crack the glass of the tank installing them if they are not coated in rubber or silicone.
