magnets

over here in the UK, magnet holders for powerheads are pretty expensive and often quite bulky for use in smaller tanks.

In the past I have avoided use of maxijet attachements by supergluing the fitting which slots into the back of the maxijet to an algae magnet and this has worked well.

On my new tank, the glass is a bit thicker so I am after a stronger magnet.

Just wondering, would it be possible to use a Neodymium magnet in this way?

Would it corrode under water? (I see nickel or epoxy coated versions are available)

Would it be possible to glue something to one? (without compromising the coating?)

Anyone using them at all?

Anyne know the 'pulling force' ratings of common magnets (do you have magfloats in the US?) to provide a comparison?

Yup, magfloats grow on trees over here and are harvested with long steel poles. They're just coming into season now, unfortunately with the drought they're all going to be mini magfloats, not the full-size magfloats.

Actually, they're pretty expensive over here too. Most of the cheap equipment uses suction cups (ick). Coated magnets would be a good investment, I think.

I found if you put a little silicone sealeer on the suction cups then stick them down they hold great and they are less noise then the magnets

I actually went back to suction cups on my Power Heads

though my Tunze nanos use magnets
