Mail order SPS corals

Has anyone around here ever purchased SPS corals via mail order? If so, where? How was your experience? What did you get? Would you do it again?

Yeah, all the time. I never shop with vendors online, only fellow hobbyists who can be trusted. You will find much better deals that way. Shoot me a PM if you're interested in some SPS, I may have a couple things you want, and you wont have to order online ;-)

I have bought frags from fellow reefers here on ReefCentral. The best that I have received have been from tfp. Here is a thread of his:

He lives in Folsom so the shipping is a little cheaper than if you received from outside of California. Check out his home page and you can see the frags he has for sale, just click on the "view this members frags" link. If interested, send him a pm and he usually will give you a deal if you buy a few frags. Let me know if you buy something from him, I may go in with you.

For shipping procedures I suggest you view this thread in the for sale forum:

Sorry for the confusion didn't mean to invade a CA thread. I was just interested in how myzislow went about shipping SPS or any coral for that matter successfully, as I might start doing some live shipping myself. Packing techniques...heat/cold packs, water or not (it sounds crazy but i've heard some companies use damp cloth instead of water).

It's really not hard. Get an adequate size box, I use 8x8x8, line it snug with .75" styrofoam.
I use bags that are made for shipping, they are 2mil thick and are 3" x18", just cut the excess off after u tie it. Couple turkey baster squirts of tank water, drop the frag in, tie it off, double bag it and you are good to go. Don't worry about including air in with the coral, they'll be fine. Add packing peanuts around the all of the corals and you are pretty much done. Then, depending on the weather where you are shipping I either include a 30 hour heat pack or small ice packs taped to the lid. I always check the forecast with their zip beforehand. I only ship UPS or fed ex priority overnight.

Thanks for the recommendation. I actually bumped into his page the other day when searching the web. His selection looks really good. It's nice to hear that he is reputable because I'm always skeptical when ordering from individuals online. I'll let you know if I decide to get something.
